Lostrego is a ceramic jewellery and mini tableware brand that explores boundaries within natural elements interaction in ceramics and the way they transform when given right conditions.
Celia Lostrego is a lithuanian artist, based in Portugal. She was 16 when she fell in love with ceramics for the first time, while living and studying Sanskrit at university in Lithuania. She felt that there was unexplained connection between introspection levels she reached by touching the clay and learning ancient India´s culture and those two passions followed her ever since. After ten years of traveling and moving around different continents, working with ceramic artists in different countries, she decided to start her own studio in her beloved Porto town and concentrate on her brand, inspired by nature and ancient mysticism.
The process of creating each piece is a ritual. Every shape, color and little detail is hand-made, self-designed and created with an intense effort, inspiration and love at ceramic studio, where she works with porcelain, stoneware and earthenware clays, natural oxides and pigments and experiment with the most unexpected materials, least used in a traditional ceramics. Coffee powder, hair, egg shells and other everyday life elements can create absolutely mind-blowing effects while mixed with oxydes.
The chemical reactions produced during the firing in the kiln are always unique which means that you will never meet someone owning the same piece of of art.
The name of a brand, as well as Celia´s second name Lostrego means "thunder" in old galician language, and reflects her connection to the wild side of nature and her appreciation for south european cultures.
